instead i think a more rational approach would be rate limited live updates unless you interact with a post. it would save on so much unneeded motion scrolling and refreshing

the behaviour like twitter is only a paradigm that is useful to people who use twitter. When I first joined twitter (have since left) i thought that was one of a long string of bad interface choices they made, as it arbitrarily hides new information behind a page refresh, without explanation as to what the information is, or where it is comment chain wise.

I prefer the live updates if you can fix the same score order swap bug. The concept of it live updates makes it more similar to a threaded chat, which encourages more participation than what could be an ever persistent "there are x updates" which loses your spot in the page if you refresh.

ok so no animals kill other animals for getting into their territory? Monkeys don't go to war with other monkeys? My dog isn't food aggressive? you are cherry picking animal behaviours. Animals are greedy and animals can also behave altruistically. Both exist and both are the nature of existence. You pretending greed is an inherently capitalist phenomenon is absurd

What a garbage article. Regardless of your opinions on the subject, there is 0 substance/references for any of the content of the article

A modest proposal: front page compromiseby in notabug

                []RustyShackleford -3 points

This I can get behind. Its far better than the mess we have now. It solves the desire for a SFW frontpage while also not having any content whatsoever, so you are not cherrypicking what is acceptable and not acceptable content for new users. Bounce rate be damned, if the site has enough merit it will gain and retain users as the other forums become more censored and advertiser driven

I suppose I should be more clear, most of the criticism of the frontpage stems from it being default, not being curiated.by NABin whatever

                  []RustyShackleford -0 points

This is what i have been trying to get across for a while now. There is no issue having a curated front page, it just should not be a default

Go1dfish, censoring the front page is clearly making existing users dislike the site, and there is zero evidence it is making anyone actually join. Make t/all the default again, the community demands it.by NABin whatever

                    []RustyShackleford -0 points

this argument is getting circular. Is this site about free speech? or being politically correct? I was under the assumption that it was the former not the latter. And if the "cancer" as you call it is filling the front page, then it must be some popular content! that means nobody is filtering it via lenses, and its getting upvoted! The concept of censoring speech as a first impression of a free speech site is absolutely absurd.

I must question the motivation of anyone that fights for censorship. The concept that some opinions, just because they may be distasteful, are not as valuable as theirs leads me to believe that those asking for censorship are doing so out of herd mentality, wishing for the outsiders to remain outsiders to reaffirm that they "belong" rather than accepting the logical conclusion that all information is valuable, regardless of one's emotional reactions to it. Echo chambers are dangerous to logical thinking, as it creates confirmation bias.

yes when there was performance issues. I cannot recall the exact conversation and will not get myself trapped in a lie, but I remember him saying something about a lack of desire to be the one to curate content in chat

go1dfish is choosing to ignore people for us, not us choosing to ignore people. That is the essential difference. Moderation should be community generated only, with the ability to choose the moderation lens you want, not chosen by default by a single admin
