Other than providing another 3rd party with all my meta-data.
Better support for participating without it may come in the future.

Nothing. Just use invidio.us
[–]x0x7+2 -0 points 1 week ago
Advantages and disadvantages:
Invidio doesn't show suggestions.
Hooktube's front page is degenerate.

Easy to download the video in one click even if it has music,
A trending page that is a result of what link aggregators link to.

but it has hooktube...
If you only knew how bad things really are
Redundancy in case youtube goes hardcore neoliberal and charges escalating prices for access?
[–]souse+3 -0 points 1 week ago
Even when it was doing something useful, like invidio.us now does, hooktube provided zero redundancy.
What if youtube goes down because google decides to yank it?

Then all their embedded videos stop working. Neither site hosts anything.
So you're saying competition is bad, mmkay?
It's not competition, it's a wrapper.
I see. I really know nothing about hooktube. Seems like there should be competition for youtube, though.
It web scrapes Youtube videos and shows them without advertising. It also does not count for views on Youtube so it is like a mirror of sorts that web scrapes Youtube for videos.
Why does youtube let it exist?
but it wraps youtube. It would be a 404 with someone squatting the page. They could replace it with mirror content, but how?

It used to, now it just embeds the normal youtube player.
Oh, well I don't know hooktube then. I thought they had their own servers with everything there.
