This is a good video but he's actually underclocking and overvolting the plasma globe.

The original driver in the plasma globe itself is very high frequency. Probably on the order of 13.5 MHz. It needs to be high frequency in order to effectively capacitively couple the energy out to it's environment through the glass and make neat looking stabler arcs.

A tesla coil of that size capacitor bank and windings is probably some tens to hundreds of kilohertz. That's much lower "clock" speed than the 13 thousand KHz of the original driver.
