So much better than the crap they get away with in FPS games today.

People used to complain about the lag they could see.

So it was all hidden.

Now people imagine they are playing a game with other people, but really there is no sync and they're never where they think they are. It's all an illusion.

Consoles killed gaming. Yet none of the new kids noticed.

Networking code for fps games peaked with Starsiege: Tribes in 1998. Back then it was doing amazing things with 56k connections and 128 player servers. https://www.gamedevs.org/uploads/tribes-networking-model.pdf

The balance between latency and player sync has never been so fine again.

You'd think someone would deliver decent network code again with that bandwidth instead of 6GB+ graphics packs.

Nope. The idiot users would just complain about lag again and we'd be back to faking it. Suspend the laws of physics and give us what we demand!
