This I can get behind. Its far better than the mess we have now. It solves the desire for a SFW frontpage while also not having any content whatsoever, so you are not cherrypicking what is acceptable and not acceptable content for new users. Bounce rate be damned, if the site has enough merit it will gain and retain users as the other forums become more censored and advertiser driven

break the front page so people have to look for alternative, perfect plan!

[] -0 points

because people are too stupid to understand anything that doesn't look like reddit!

[] -0 points

the /t/all autists claim that people are too dumb to look for it, despite that's how it is on reddit

is notabug reddit? i thought the only similarity was a modified frontend of reddit open source

[] -0 points

yes, this is supposed to turn into reddit

[] -0 points

Disagree. This is supposed to turn into a platform for infinite Reddits (aka spaces), with each Reddit being different depending on who runs it.

I highly doubt that reddit admins have agreed to that, nor do I believe that the goal of the project is to become reddit, but a different concept using some of the lessons learned from reddit and adapted from their mistakes. The idea of "lets just make a reddit clone with no improvements to the concept" dooms the site to fail.

too bad shit is open source so their opinion doesn't really matter

the goal of the project is to look and feel the same as reddit while offering some extra freedom with a better backend

so the entire concept of spaces and lenses that go1dfish was talking about, he was kidding? the decision to move the chat to the sidebar didn't happen?

[]go1dfish -0 points

The goal of spaces/lenses is to re-imagine subreddits/communities in a way that allows them to be forked.

My goal is and always has been to remain quite close to the existing Reddit user experience to the extent possible in a distributed environment.

by time you implement these features its not going to look and feel like reddit anymore

[] -0 points

spaces and lenses are mostly out of sight, and chat is a small feature that was put there because it takes the equivalent space of an ad on reddit

firehose was not a reddit feature chat implementation is entirely different in every aspect topics != subreddits this is still in development. assuming the look and feel right now of the site is anything like its later forms is shortsighted this also doesn't look like reddit.com, maybe reddit a year(?) or so ago.

The concept of the site is still the same though. Removing frontpage would completely change it.

[] -0 points

look closer at the example. there is a link for front page

[] -0 points

That's not what most users expect. Frontpage should show what this site feels like. I can't imagine frontpage without content.

[] -1 points

if it's not the front page, it's not the front page

[] -2 points

i can't handle change though. i just prefer things to not evolve

[] -0 points

i know change is hard, but its good! Change is necessary for growth!

firehose is on its way out man

[]go1dfish -0 points

Yeah idk if this will become the homepage but it's certainly something that is useful/needed.

Personally I hate sites like this that avoid content on the frontpage like that.

But that said I’ve had similar thoughts about maybe having the frontpage be a listing of spaces but I think this would likely lead to a higher bounce rate than just having interesting content up front.

Similar to voting, if we want spaces to have follower counts the follows need to be public, we could likely pretty easily have a voted listing of spaces though. If people are interested in this idea mock out what it could look like.

Your spaces space is going to make it look like content is old, it's going to be manipulated as fuck too and it won't teach the user anything either because the expectation is for subs to be completely separate, you'd have to hope for the guy to go through several spaces, happen to show up on 2 that have the same topic and somehow get him to assume that it isn't just a repost or a crosspost.

So you're going to have a front page that's disfunctional, doesn't really teach the user anything AND leads to higher bounce rate. Just let the front page be curated, and let users advertise their spaces via flairs.

I tend to agree, this was just a suggestion to see if there is any real interest in other approaches. I've seen lots of criticism and a single endlessly repeated demand (remove the defaults), but no willingness to look for creative alternatives. To me this is always a sign that someone is pushing an agenda rather than really trying to solve a problem.

its more of old users suchh as myself remember when we had no frontpage, and things were fine then.

[]NAB -0 points

I agree on this one, the front page needs content at least.

But why does porn have to be banned? Just flair it and its fine.

Just give us a link option to see everything with our bookmarked link. Like notabug.io/all or something.

The Millchan front page is pretty cool tbh, you can search for boards and select which one you want.
